America’s patient privacy law, the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, has been anything but static. Regulators have pushed to keep it current and to draft forward-looking rules. This fall is no different, with a second round of government audits scheduled that could be the toughest yet for covered entities (i.e., health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers who electronically transmit any health information).
Covered entities often face an uphill battle when trying to manage HIPAA requirements. They must respond to regulatory updates, such as the recent changes in the Omnibus Rule of HIPAA, which governs the interactions between service providers and health care companies. Those amendments can quickly force covered entities into a tough spot. By: ABC Action News WFTS Tampa Bay Six/Ten LLC is bringing renewed life to one of Florida’s most beautiful cities with new office, retail and residential offerings in the historic downtown district. As profiled in this recent Globe St article, the company has acquired more than two dozen properties to modernize and revitalize their amenities and architecture.
Among the company’s latest projects, Six/Ten is redeveloping an arcade building from 1928 that now houses an artisanal cheese shop and developing a multifamily rental community designed by award-winning, modernist architect Max Strang. The company has restored 347 Central, a 20,000-plus square foot building overlooking the park and is planning to restore the site of the original Publix Market. The company is also investing in technology, having purchased and remodeled two former telecommunication towers with state-of-the-art fiber connections. The creative combination of historic charm and high technology is attracting medical and professional practices, along with restaurants, stores and people seeking an urban lifestyle in a small-town setting. Look for Six/Ten to continue its investment in downtown properties and technology, and its commitment to bring new companies and residents to the area. ![]() David Murphy’s job is to get people interested. He’s had no trouble so far. Murphy, a senior vice president with CBRE Group Inc. in Orlando, is leading marketing efforts for the Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center, the upcoming industrial park being created next to the CSX distribution facility that opened in April. While his team has been in discussion with the developer, Winter Haven Industrial Investors, for some time, Murphy said, they are just beginning their marketing work with efforts expected to be ramped up over the next few weeks. Winter Haven Industrial Investors LLC includes GEM Capital Realty of Chicago as the financial investor, CLAYCO Inc. as the project construction firm and George Stock & Associates as the project engineer. So far, companies have been reaching out to him with interest, instead of the other way around. “We’ve been pleasantly surprised with the amount of activity,” Murphy said. “People have been coming to us, before we could even get the calls out. A lot of people recognize the value of the intermodal facility.” Winter Haven Industrial Investors envisions building 8 million square feet of industrial park space and investing $400 million into the project. By: The Ledger ![]() Back when our grandparents used to visit the Sunshine State, there was always one place that they had to visit. And that was Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Florida. Started back in 1936 by Dick Pope Sr. and his wife Julie, this 170-acre park quickly became world-famous for its lush botanical gardens & elaborate water skiing shows. But with the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971, the center of gravity for Florida tourism suddenly shifted over to Orlando. And with fewer & fewer folks now willing to drive on out to Polk County to sample Cypress Gardens’ admittedly old-fashioned charms, the Sunshine State’s first commercial tourist theme park went through some tough financial straits. Beginning in the 1980s, Cypress Gardens changed hands multiple times, with each new owner not knowing quite what to do with the property. Finally in January 2010, Merlin Entertainments — the world’s second largest theme park and attraction operator — purchased Cypress Gardens with the intent of turning this beautiful piece of lakeside property into LEGOLAND Florida. Which caused a lot of folks around the United States to fret. Mostly because they believed that their grandparents’ favorite Florida vacation stop was about to disappear under a blizzard of plastic bricks. Ah, but that’s not quite what Adrian Jones — the longtime Merlin Entertainments employee who was named as General Manager of LEGOLAND Florida back in August of 2010 — had in mind for the property…. ![]() The trains are coming. And Winter Haven hasn’t seen anything like it. After years of controversy and patience, Winter Haven’s CSX rail terminal, the Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center, opens in early April. Construction is complete at the site off State Road 60 in Winter Haven, near Lake Wales. Workers there are going through the final phases of training on three massive cranes before the facility starts using them to move containers from the additional trains traveling through Polk County – and the commerce that comes with it. Soon, the most technologically advanced intermodal terminal in the country will unload trains directly onto trucks — and trucks on to trains — in the most environmentally friendly, most efficient way possible with today’s technology, CSX officials say. This terminal and others like it — that make shipping easier by being able to use multiple means of transport for one container — are becoming an important part of the rail business. “Intermodal is the future here and now,” CSX spokesman Gary Sease said, “and Winter Haven is certainly on the vanguard of that.” It’s also on the precipice of an economic development revolution, local business leaders say. By: The Ledger ![]() Winter Haven, FL, February 11, 2014 – The delectable world of Artisan cheeses has reached Winter Haven’s charming downtown. The Cheese Room, LLC is a retail store offering artisan cheeses and specialty foods, inspired by the boutique shops in New York City. The store is located in the historic Arcade Building, owned by Six/Ten, LLC, at 254 West Central Avenue in Suite B, across from the Ritz Theater. The new store is owned and operated by Sherry and Michael Summers, who have called Winter Haven home for over twenty five years. The store currently offers a selection of 50 cheeses, and specialty foods typically paired with cheese. The store is supported by the entire Summers family with the Summers’ sixteen-year-old son, Colby, providing counter services after school, and nineteen-year-old daughter, Carly, helping with special interior design projects. The Cheese Room is open Tuesday from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sherry Summers says the staff focuses on providing high quality products and exceptional service. The concept of Artisan means hand crafted in small batches using traditional methods. Shop patrons are invited to sample any cheese before purchasing and receive careful assistance from staff for choosing the right cheese for their needs. “The founding of our Cheese Shop is a direct result of several trips to New York City. We loved dipping into small markets and cheese shops to sample hand crafted cheeses, nibble on small production charcuterie, and drink delicious wine,” said Sherry Summers. “We enjoyed learning from the wise cheesemongers in Greenwich Village about the amazing and delicious world of Artisan cheeses. It remains our guilty pleasure and an experience we want to share with everyone in Winter Haven.” |
